THANE: Chief minister Eknath Shinde-led Bala Saheb's Shiv Sena and Bhartiya Janta Party's supporters have claimed to win about 80 per cent of the seats in Thane district in the first gram panchayat elections held after the Shinde and BJP government came to power in Maharashtra. Thane district is home town of Shinde, where he has a strong hold. Both alliance parties had claimed that their supporters manage to win 121 gram panchayats while Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and Maha Vikas Aghadi together have been able to win only 28 gram panchayats out of total 156 gram panchayats in District while on 2 gram panchayat locals had boycotted voting. The maximum 63 gram panchayats were won by Shinde faction while BJP managed to win 58 gram panchayats. Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena supporters contested election together with its MVA partners Congress and NCP and they altogether won 28 gram panchayats. Political pandits claimed that many were believing that Thackeray may get sympathy votes since Shinde broke his party, but results show that Shinde still have his clouds in Thane District like earlier. It may be recalled after Eknath Shinde formed government with BJP, more than 80% of political representatives including corporators, zila parishad members, gram panchayat members of Shiv Sena had came in support of Shinde. Prakash Patil, up neta of Shinde faction who has strong hold in Thane rural area, said, "The results shows that Shinde saheb who worked for development in Thane district is still having strong support of real Shiv Sainiks in Bala Saheb's Shiv Sena party and in future also we will get same support." Patil claimed that in upcoming two to three days I will take all our elected representatives in Mumbai to meet CM Shinde. Interestingly MVA partners till late evening were not sure about their elected representatives in Thane district. When asked Kedar Dighe, Thane district president of Uddhav led Shiv Sena, he said, "I was busy in party's meeting and yet to check exactly how much our supporters win gram panchayats." A senior bureaucrat said the claims made by parties have no substance since the elections are not contested on the basis of affiliation to political parties.

THANE: Ahead of the Andheri assembly seat by-polls, the Eknath Shinde faction has accused the Uddhav Thackeray-led group of relying on legacy and sympathy votes instead of talking about developmental works. A day after the Thackeray-led group submitted a letter to the Election Commission alleging bias, Naresh Mhaske, former Thane mayor and spokesperson for the Shinde group, released a digital statement dismissing the same and claiming they (Thackeray) had no other topics to fight elections and are therefore banking only on blame games and seeking sympathy. “They (Thackeray) had sought the torch symbol and temporary name for their party from the EC, and had announced the same on social media also and started celebrations. Surprisingly, after three days, they are now alleging foul play which reflects that they have nothing else to fight on except playing the sympathy card and banking on their legacy. The kind of work you do is more important when fighting such polls,” said Mhaske. Chiding the complaints made by the Thackeray group, Mhaske repeated Shinde’s stance that injustice was done on their group. “We are the real claimants for the party symbol and name, and have over 80% support of leaders and workers. On the other hand, they are resorting to forging support which was recently seen in Mumbai. We appeal to them to fight out a fair war based on works done. These crocodile tears won’t help,” said Mhaske. When contacted, Kedar Dighe, district president at Thane Shiv Sena, defended the Thackeray group. “If it was only sympathy then it would not have lasted long, but those making allegations must also remember dedication and loyalty is what binds a party and its people together. It seems it has become a norm for them (Shinde faction) to comment and criticise everything. But they must realise that the common man is watching everything,” he said.

KALYAN: The ports and mines minister Dada Bhuse of Shiv Sena's rebel faction on Friday challenged Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray to remove the photo of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and contest the election as the latter is continuosly teasing the Eknath Shinde group for using Bal Thackeray's photo. The Hindu Garv Garjana Sampark Yatra was started by chief minister Eknath Shinde and his supporters across Maharashtra, under which the first rally was organized in Dombivli on Friday evening by Eknath Shinde's son Dr Shrikant Shinde during which minister Bhuse was also present. The rally was attended by a large crowd of Shiv Sainiks. On this occasion, Dada Bhuse in his speech said, "This gathering is a trailer for Dussehra gathering and now we will have to search for a bigger ground for gathering on Dussehra." Bhuse said Uddhav Thackeray is repeatedly asking us to remove Bala Saheb's photo but Bala Saheb was not the father of one family but the father of entire Maharashtra. Therefore, those running the party in the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj should remove the picture of Shivaji Maharaj and contest the elections, he said. Bhuse slammed Uddhav saying that he remembers Shivaji Maharaj during election and then forgets him. Talking about the permission denied for Shivaji Park rally, Bhuse said that, "We are Shiv Sainiks who believe in democracy. It's good that it happened. Since the capacity of Shivaji Park is less, not so many Shiv Sainiks can gather there. Therefore, we should look for a bigger ground for a large crowd." During the rally, Shrikant Shinde also targeted Uddhav saying, "Earlier, during the 2.5 years of government, it was being run by someone else and someone else was sitting on the chair". Shrikant also said that looking at the speed of work of Shinde government in last 2.5 months, opposition are worried about what he would do in 2.5 years of his government. He added that during the next 2.5 years, Shinde-led government will be a blockbuster hit like Sholay movie. However, speaking over chair controversy during a rally he said, "Earlier opposition were looking at the chair of Shinde Sahab. Now these people have started seeing my chair too". Shrikant said, "Yesterday (Thursday) I was sitting on the chair of my Thane-based house, before I sat, there was the video conferencing of CM saheb, due to which there was his board behind the chair but I had not seen it. I am a second time MP and once I win by 2.5 lakh margin and I will know protocols about where to sit and where not."
