THANE: The much-awaited Digha railway station on the Thane-Vashi-Panvel route could become operational by month end, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Rajan Vichare said on Monday. Vichare who visited the station premises on the fringes of Thane and Navi Mumbai, told mediapersons that the work on the station is nearly 95% complete. The project is being executed in two phases.
THANE: The much-awaited Digha railway station on the Thane-Vashi-Panvel route could be made operational by the month's end, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Rajan Vichare announced on Monday.Vichare who visited the station premises on the fringes of Thane and Navi Mumbai told media the work on the station was nearly 95 per cent complete and could be flagged off latest by the month's end.The project is being executed in two phases with the work on the first completed following which services on the Thane-Vashi-Panvel route would halt on the two platforms, informed Vichare. The second phase will be completed as part of the Kalwa-Airoli elevated route, MRVC officials said.Vichare said he had been following up with the railway ministry since its inception for setting up the station as it would prove to be beneficial for commuters, especially those working in the industrial belt in the vicinity and even local residents who won’t have to travel to Airoli or Thane to board trains.
THANE: Four ex-NCP corporators from Thane switched loyalties to Shiv Sena Balasaheb, party Sunday night, justifying their switchover to better prospects for their ward under the leadership of CM Eknath Shinde. Few leaders from Mumbra also expressed interest in aligning with the saffron combine, late Sunday. Senior leader and former corporator from Lokmanya Nagar, Hanmant Jagdale (67), along with three colleagues and few local office bearers formally joined the Shinde camp. Jagdale, who holds considerable sway in Lokmanya nagar, was associated with the Congress since the late 70’s and joined NCP since its formative years. “I am joining Shinde sahib as I feel he has the vision and power to ensure complete development of my ward through cluster redevelopment,” he said.
Thane: Four former NCP corporators have decided to quit the party and join the Shiv Sena Balasaheb expecting ‘faster development’ of their ward, senior leader Hanumant Jagdale informed on Friday. The development could be a setback for the party in the city where it is the second largest party as per the last elections, observers said.Jagdale along with party colleagues Radhabai Jadhwar, Digambar Thakur and Vanita Ghongre said they decided to switch loyalties as they felt Shinde, who is a powerful neta from Thane and now as the chief minister, will be in a better position to bring in better prospects for their ward in Lokmanya Nagar area of Thane. The corporators announced their decision on Friday before the media and also claimed they are not upset with the NCP or its leaders. In addition, the wife of deceased former corporator Sudhakar Chavan will also join them. “We communicated our decision to party seniors including Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar and also met Jitendra Awhad saying we were switching loyalties. I am with the party since its inception and am now looking at taking a break from my political career and so want some speedy development for my area and its citizens who have kept me in power for so long,” Jagdale told TOI. The leaders also clarified there was no monetary inducements either. It may be noted the last few weeks have seen incidents hinting at possibilities of cracks within the NCP in Thane.
THANE: A former corporator of Thane Municipal Corporation currently with Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena, and his 10 aides have been booked by Kasarwadavli police for allegedly molesting and assaulting a former female journalist who objected to the noise from speakers during an event. When she objected, the organiser, former corporator Naresh Manera and his 10 accomplices allegedly assaulted her and even tore a jacket in front of the audience.
THANE: A former corporator of Thane Municipal Corporation along with his ten aides have been booked by Kasarwadavli police for allegedly molesting and assaulting a former female journalist. The complainant had objected to the noise caused during an event using speakers.The police said that the complainant resides near a ground in the Anand Nagar area of Ghodbunder road.It was after 10 pm, she called the control room number and complained about the noise at the event. When the police arrived the organiser from the political party did not heed their warning. As a result the complainant went to the spot and objected again but some of the organiser sincluding former corporator Naresh Manera and his accomplices assaulted her and even tore her jacket in front of the audiences. One of them then took a wooden stick and assaulted her, the complaint with the police stated.Her husband informed that the Kasarwadavali police were reluctant to take any action hence he had to call up a senior police officer, only after the officer’s intervention, the police took the complaint. On the other hand, the Kasarwadavali police registered a non-congnizable against the former journalist.
