Jagdale, who is a senior politician and holds considerable sway in the dense middle-class economic enclave of Lokmanya nagar area was associated with the Congress since the late 70s and joined the NCP in its formative years.Jagdales deflection is important as he had successfully managed to retain NCP hold in the ward that was located between Shiv Sena bastions. The politician who rose from humble beginnings also operates a real estate company and is known for his in-depth study of civic rules. He was also one of the accused in a builder suicide case a few years back but managed to retain his seat in the 2017 polls with a decent margin due to his excellent equation within his constituency.“I am joining Shinde sahib as I feel he has the vision and power to ensure complete development of my ward through the cluster redevelopment that requires a major makeover. I discussed the switchover with my loyalists who supported me. I have no complaints against the NCP or any of its leaders and I also had a discussion with senior NCP leaders and shared the reason for my step recently,” Jagdale said before a huge crowd of supporters.Meanwhile, it is learnt that around eight former NCP corporators from the Kalwa-Mumbra assembly constituency are also likely to switch loyalties to the Shinde camp as few were present during the visit of MP Dr Shrikant Shinde during his visit to the suburbs, Sunday late evening.

Thane: Four former NCP corporators have decided to quit the party and join the Shiv Sena Balasaheb expecting ‘faster development’ of their ward, senior leader Hanumant Jagdale informed on Friday. The development could be a setback for the party in the city where it is the second largest party as per the last elections, observers said.Jagdale along with party colleagues Radhabai Jadhwar, Digambar Thakur and Vanita Ghongre said they decided to switch loyalties as they felt Shinde, who is a powerful neta from Thane and now as the chief minister, will be in a better position to bring in better prospects for their ward in Lokmanya Nagar area of Thane. The corporators announced their decision on Friday before the media and also claimed they are not upset with the NCP or its leaders. In addition, the wife of deceased former corporator Sudhakar Chavan will also join them. “We communicated our decision to party seniors including Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar and also met Jitendra Awhad saying we were switching loyalties. I am with the party since its inception and am now looking at taking a break from my political career and so want some speedy development for my area and its citizens who have kept me in power for so long,” Jagdale told TOI. The leaders also clarified there was no monetary inducements either. It may be noted the last few weeks have seen incidents hinting at possibilities of cracks within the NCP in Thane.
