Chain snatchers wanted in 95 cases arrested from Maharashtra’s Parbhani

KALYAN: The Central police station in Ulhasnagar arrested a chain snatcher wanted in 95 cases, including four serious Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) cases.Abdullah Irani alias Sayyed (22) was involved in 95 chain snatching cases in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Thane rural. Dattatreya Shinde, additional commissioner of Police, Central zone of Thane police said, "The accused falls into most wanted category since he has been involved in chain snatching cases from the age of 16, and police from Thane,Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane rural area were searching for him."Earlier, Sayyed was residing in Irani basti located in Ambivli area near Kalyan where many chain snatchers were residing. However, later he got shifted to Rahim Nagar area in Parbhani district, said police.Recently, in 20- section area in Ulhasnagar, the accused targeted a businessman Sanjay Nainwani (46) and stole his golden chain worth Rs 1 lakh. Based on Nainwani's complaint, a team led by Madhukar Kad, senior police inspector of Central Police Station started probe and finally managed to nab him from Parbhani district.Dr Sudhakar Pathare, deputy commissioner of police said, "The accused used to steal motorcycle and target elderly people to snatch their golden chains."

KALYAN: The Khadakpada have arrested a history-sheeter two years after he had escaped from the 15th floor of multi-storied Tata Amantra quarantine center in Bhiwandi.The accused, Ghazidara Irani Jafri (27), have multiple chain snatching cases registered against him. Two years ago, he was arrested in Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) charges. On the run in two years, he also committed 12 more chain snatching and vehicles thefts cases. A police team on Tuesday went to nab Jafari at Lahuji Nagar area near Kalyan, where the accused was hiding. Sachin Gunjal, deputy commissioner of police, zone 3 of Thane police, said, "After receiving specific information when team went to nab Jafari, he tried to flee by attacking police team with chilly spray. However team overpowered accused and nabbed him." Police have recovered three stolen vehicles, knife, air gun and chilly spray from him.The police said Jafari is resident of tainted Irani basti area in Ambivali where many chain snatchers reside. In April 2021, looking at Jafari’s role into several chain snatching cases, Jafari was booked into MCOCA charges and was shown arrested and was sent to Adharwadi jail. However, Jafari tested Covid positive that time due to which he was taken to a quarantine centre situated at Tata Amantra for treatment.At quarantine centre, Jafari removed the glasses from the window and came down from the pipes before escaping.
