Powerloom worker rapes, kills 3-year-old neighbour in Bhiwadi; arrested

KALYAN: A 26-year-old powerloom worker has been arrested from Bhiwandi for allegedly raping and killing his three-year-old neighbour on Sunday. Police said the accused who hails from Bihar, had moved into the neighbourhood last month. He lived alone. On Sunday evening, he allegedly lured the girl under the pretext of showing her a mobile phone and took her to his house where he sexually assaulted her and strangled her to death. When the girl didn't return home, her parents searched for her. They approached police at 11pm. "We found that the house next door was shut since evening," said a senior officer. "Around 2am, we knocked on the door but got no response. A policeman climbed on the roof and removed a tin sheet and found the man sitting next to her body." Police also found a handbag nearby; they suspect he was planning to dump the body. He was arrested and charged under the IPC sections for rape and murder, and the Pocso Act.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supree Court's directives on cases related to sexual assault)

(Representational)Thane: A 37-year-old businessman from Mira Road in Thane has been cheated of Rs 33.65 lakh after he was tricked into investing in bitcoins on the false promise of lucrative returns, police said on Monday.Police have registered a case against two persons under section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.An official said the complainant came into contact with the accused persons through a WhatsApp group. In February 2022, he received a message from two persons, including the group administrator, asking him to become a bitcoin investor if he wants lucrative returns."The businessman agreed and invested money. He got good returns initially, but later he suffered losses and stopped trading. But the accused contacted him and assured him that he will get guaranteed returns and demanded a 20 per cent commission.
