Thane: Stones thrown at train injure woman in eye

KALYAN: A 55-year-old woman passenger was seriously injured in the left eye in an incident of throwing stones at the Rajya Rani Express running between Shahad and Ambivli railway stations, near Kalyan on Monday morning. The victim, Rakmabai Patil, a resident of Diva area in Thane, was returning home, along with her family, from Nanded after participateing in a religious event when the incident happened. A single person was involved in the incident, officials said. A GRP official said that Patil was first treated at Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan, but as her injuries were serious, she was then referred to the private Isha Netralay Hospital on Murbad Road in Kalyan. A doctor who treated Patil said she had suffered damage to cornea. The Ambivli-Shahad route is considered sensitive as in the past incidents of stone throwing and gangs using sticks for attacking passengers with the intention of robbery were reported on it. The GRP and the RPF have divided the eight sensitive points between themselves to ensure enhanced patrolling in the area Monday's incident took plae in area hanled by RPF. Lata Argade, general secretary of Suburban Railway Passenger Federation, said the railway administration should install CCTVs in such sensitive spots.

KALYAN: The Khadakpada have arrested a history-sheeter two years after he had escaped from the 15th floor of multi-storied Tata Amantra quarantine center in Bhiwandi.The accused, Ghazidara Irani Jafri (27), have multiple chain snatching cases registered against him. Two years ago, he was arrested in Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) charges. On the run in two years, he also committed 12 more chain snatching and vehicles thefts cases. A police team on Tuesday went to nab Jafari at Lahuji Nagar area near Kalyan, where the accused was hiding. Sachin Gunjal, deputy commissioner of police, zone 3 of Thane police, said, "After receiving specific information when team went to nab Jafari, he tried to flee by attacking police team with chilly spray. However team overpowered accused and nabbed him." Police have recovered three stolen vehicles, knife, air gun and chilly spray from him.The police said Jafari is resident of tainted Irani basti area in Ambivali where many chain snatchers reside. In April 2021, looking at Jafari’s role into several chain snatching cases, Jafari was booked into MCOCA charges and was shown arrested and was sent to Adharwadi jail. However, Jafari tested Covid positive that time due to which he was taken to a quarantine centre situated at Tata Amantra for treatment.At quarantine centre, Jafari removed the glasses from the window and came down from the pipes before escaping.
